The Noble Joseph when he had taken thy Most Pure
Body down from the tree, wrapped it in fine linen and anointed it
with spice and placed it in a new tomb.
During the Lamentation Matins which takes place late on Friday evening of Great Week, this icon is held over the heads of the congregation as they process back into the Church. It touches the head of each believer, thus reminding each of us of our Baptism when we were buried with Christ.
It is by the hand of Nicholas Papas. This icon is from St. Mary's Orthodox Church in Masontown, PA.
